After centuries of false notions, the ideal of human power and potentiality was reborn in a period known as the renaissance. The dramatic transformation of worldview from the medieval era went hand in hand with a number of discoveries, innovations and inventions. The world was no longer flat and men and women were encouraged to broaden their thinking and create an open outlook. As we reflect on world history we know that periods of Renaissance were essentially periods wherein our right of freedom to think and express broke through old moulds of thinking and behaviour.
The “Information Age” has placed at our finger tips the ability to find out what is happening anywhere in the world; how to bake a cake; assemble a car; the history and meaning of words; the meaning of life; ready access to complex theories from our greatest scholars to those of our new thinkers. It provides us with art, history, everything imaginable and in every form possible, and even a ‘DIY’ guide to achieve enlightenment. But in this WEB of information we are yet to find our OWN truth and, further, find the time to live it! During the Renaissance, individuals with a medieval mind-set were left behind. Now in the Information and Communication Age, “medieval” thinkers are threatened with extinction!
Renaissance comes from the combination of the French verb renâitre, meaning “to revive” and the noun naissance, meaning birth. And so after generations of knowledge and information, more of us are answering an inner call to rediscover, re-turn, repair, rekindle, revive, reinvent, revamp, replenish, re-new our lives. Old paradigms are crumbling and new ones are being rapidly constructed in their place. The message is loud and clear, change or else the world will surely change you.
Leonardo da Vinci, the pioneer of Renaissance, taught us ‘curiosita’ – an insatiably curious approach to life and an unrelenting quest for discovery and learning. He taught us to question profusely and to change the form of questioning from time to time. For example, instead of asking how we can get to water, he said ask how we can get water to come to us. This was the start of the underwater pipeline.
The beginning of the twentieth century introduced the measure of ‘IQ’. By the end of the twentieth century the term ‘emotional intelligence’ originating with Wayne Payne (1985), and later popularized by Daniel Goleman (1995) was the start of ‘EI’. Spiritual Intelligence (‘SI’) is the new renaissance of the twenty-first century.
Every culture understands, accepts and believes the five elements to be the main and perhaps only components that make up the physical body and our physical universe - it is a theory no one can refute. The five elements are known to us as wind, water, earth, fire and ether; however the Chinese replace air and ether with wood and metal.
The Chinese believe in a generating (enhancing) cycle and in an overcoming (destroying) cycle of interactions between the five elements. In the generating cycle, wood generates fire; fire generates earth (ash); earth generates metal; metal generates water (if metal is left out at night water will have condensed on it by morning); water generates wood. In the overcoming cycle, wood grows out of earth (consuming it); earth absorbs water; water quenches fire; fire melts metal, metal cuts wood.
Man has taken leaps by understanding the nature of the elements especially in predicting their times of displeasure. Whether it be tornados, earthquakes, sand storms, heat waves, tidal waves or forest fires, the elements have a way of communicating to us they do indeed have feelings and coexist as a greater force than man himself.
What is so riveting about the five elements is no matter how much power and authority each one claims to possess, they all collaborate to create the harmonious planet we call Mother Earth! No element is competing with the other; on the contrary, they complement each other.
There is so much to learn about our individual personality from the elements. When personalities come together, no matter how ‘fiery’, ‘airy’ or ‘fluid’, we can actually complement and enhance each other and need not ‘destroy’ each other! Is this not what traveling on planet spaceship is all about?
It is not enough that we know whether we are personality type A or B. There is more to us than what meets the eye in the mirror every morning! We are able to weigh height, mass and volume of the body, but how do we measure mood and mind frames, health of our spirit, the intensity of our vibrations and energy we transmit? What is the metaphysical ‘weighing scale’?
Although neglected and deprived of our attention, the sixth element is in essence the greatest part of our being, the Spiritual Intelligence – the intelligence with which we lead our selves. We are in new millennia where everyone is talking, breathing, cooking, chewing, growing, yoga-ing spirituality! The closet spiritualists have come out in the open and the term spiritual is no longer to be feared. We can all relax and take a deep breath!
It is not a new religion taking us away from our lives; it is a philosophy, a way of life reminding us of our hidden greatness. Spirituality is listening to my own inner positive voice and finding a deeper meaning and purpose to my life. And there you will find your vast potential waiting to be unleashed.
When we talk of the human being, we are not solely mass and fluid. We are energy, a force field, and a power house – light house! We have not even begun to tap into, let alone utilize, our full voltage! Thus the sixth element training and retreats is about discovering this enormous potential and making sure it is employed 24/7.
When we concoct the science of Spiritual Intelligence with the work place the results are astounding because Spiritual Intelligence is truly at work (excuse the pun on work!). We spend more than half our life at work, with people we wouldn’t necessarily choose as friends and so it is extremely important we are happy and feeling purposeful in our jobs.
Spiritual Intelligence is the missing element in relationships these days. It can make or break relationships. Since business and work force is all about relationships, it is vital we are able to keep to our purpose and mission statements hanging on the walls, create values in the work place and deliver results on time and with less stress.
How does it work? A spiritually intelligent person leads with humility, communicates with self respect, waits with patience, resolves conflict with empathy, manages stress with self-love and co-operates with clear objectives.
Ordinary training companies will offer you the skills of leadership, conflict resolution and stress management; however The Sixth Element offers training and retreats with a unique edge – Spiritual Intelligence.
The results are guaranteed as we ensure the change and application becomes an integral part of the participants mind set and not just a tag on skill set he carries away in his fancy portfolio. We would prefer that most of our training is set up in retreat formats to help nurture not only the mind but the body and more importantly the leader within.
